This post is written for Round 5 of the Library Day in the Life project where librarians across the world share details of their daily activities.
I am the Research and Development Librarian at Kansas State University Libraries. For more about my job duties, please see my entry for Monday.
7:15am Woke up. Made breakfast immediately and without any hesitation. I knew exactly what I wanted and I went for it – Morningstar veggie sausage patty+ egg + English muffin, and a glass of orange juice with pulps. What a go-getting start to the day!
7:45am Caught up on football (soccer) news. Looks like we are very determined to keep Fabregas this season, which is encouraging. Thought about ordering the new jersey. The question is: Home or Away. They both look good. The Home jersey looks a bit retro this season… I’m a sucker.
9:00am Read and replied emails.
9:45am Attended internal candidate presentation #3 for the Undergraduate & Community Services Librarian position(s).

Kansas State University
10:15am Filled out application to apply as a non-degree student at K-State for the fall semester. Plan to take a research methodology class in the sociology department, even though the thought of doing math and stats again makes me ill. But since I now work in the assessment office, it makes sense to refresh my very rusty quantitative skills. One great perk of working in an academic library is the tuition assistance program. In my case, I get to take 3 credit hrs/semester for free. I’d be a fool to pass up doing homework and taking exams for free.
11:30am Lunch with colleagues of my new department.
1:15pm Worked on a travel grant application for ALA Midwinter. So, “how will this activity enhance your work related duties?” hmm… escaping Kansas winter to spend some time in sunny San Diego would surely boast morale…
2:45pm Attended internal candidate presentation #4 for the Undergraduate & Community Services Librarian position(s).

Hello, baby panda Yun Zi of the San Diego Zoo.
3:45pm Finished application for the travel grant for ALA Midwinter in San Diego. Managed to not mention beaches or pandas in the essay.
4:15 pm Worked on a research proposal on diversity in librarianship. More work is needed.
